Everyone wants a better-looking butt because, in today’s culture, the more toned and voluminous your butt is, the better. However, not everyone has the time or commitment to put in the work at the gym to grow bigger glute muscles. Some people choose butt implants, but not everyone wants to take that route. At Milford MD Cosmetic Dermatology Surgery & Laser Center in Milford, PA, we offer butt augmentation to enhance your buttocks without the use of implants.
Can I Take the Fat From My Stomach and Put It in My Buttocks?
The benefit of an augmentation of the buttocks is that it doesn’t involve the insertion of a butt implant. Instead, it uses a fat transfer process to remove fat from one area of the body and inject it into your buttocks. If you want to tone and tighten your abdomen and add volume to your butt, the fat can be removed from your stomach and injected into your buttocks. It’s a complete win-win situation.
What Causes the Signs of Aging in the Buttocks?
Sagging skin, volume loss, and loss of skin elasticity occur for many different reasons, including genetics, heredity, skin tone, lifestyle choices, and sun exposure. These factors not only affect your face and neck but can affect any area of the body, including the buttocks. A butt augmentation uses a fat transfer to add volume and creates a shapelier backside. This procedure is also commonly referred to as a Brazilian butt lift.
What Is a Fat Transfer?
A fat transfer removes unwanted fat through liposuction and then injects it into different areas of the body where improvements are desired. If you want to decrease unwanted fat in certain areas to increase volume in other areas, you can easily do so with a fat transfer. You can create new contours and improve existing ones during this treatment to revitalize your overall appearance.
The most common areas that a fat transfer can enhance are the face, breasts, and buttocks. Fat injections revitalize these areas and give them more shape and volume. Over time, the aging process and gravity, hormonal fluctuations, and weight changes can lead to the build-up of fat deposits in certain areas of the body. A fat transfer transfers fat from these areas to areas that need more fat. Such donor site areas include but are not limited to the:
- Abdomen
- Back
- Buttocks
- Thighs
How Does a Butt Augmentation Work?
The Preparation
Your butt augmentation preparation will begin with your surgeon cleaning the treatment sites and then marking those different treatment areas. These two areas include the donor site, which is where we will remove the unwanted fat, and the injection site, which in this case is your buttocks.
Fat transfers are often performed with local anesthesia, so while your treatment sites will be numb, you will be fully awake. In other cases, when you are undergoing multiple procedures, you may be put under general anesthesia for the procedure’s duration.
The Procedure
Once your body is prepared, and the surgeon administers the proper anesthesia, he will inject a fluid into your donor site called tumescent fluid. The fluid makes the fat removal process easier by expanding the fat cells, numbing the nerve signals in the treatment area, and affecting the blood vessels by minimizing the total amount of bleeding in the area.
As soon as the necessary amount of tumescent fluid is injected into your treatment area, you will rest for a few minutes until the entire area has become numb. The surgeon will then begin the fat harvesting process with liposuction. Body fat sits on top of muscle tissue just below the skin’s surface, which is why it is so easily accessible. Common donor sites for a butt augmentation include areas that often store stubborn fat, including but not limited to the:
- Jowls
- Abdomen
- Back
- Thighs
How Liposuction Removes the Fat
Liposuction surgically removes fat by suctioning it from the body through a specialized device. Your surgeon will make small incisions along natural body creases, a technique that helps hide scarring. A thin tube called a cannula will then be inserted into those incisions and will move in a forward and backward motion to create small tunnels.
These tunnels assist in the fat removal process and then will collapse over the next few weeks. Once these tunnels collapse, your new body contours will form. The area that was once your problem area will now be one of your most proud body areas.
Isolating the Fat Cells
Once the fat cells are removed from the donor site, they are sorted and examined so that only healthy fat cells are used during the injection process. These healthy fat cells are isolated and then prepared and put into an injectable form so that they can be injected during your butt augmentation. Stem cells are often used in conjunction with these healthy fat cells during treatment.
Injecting Fat Cells
When the fat cells are ready to be injected, your surgeon will perform what is essentially a reverse liposuction process. He will create small incisions in the necessary locations in your buttocks. The cannula will be inserted into a precise location and then, the fat will be slowly injected into the area using that same forward and backward motion technique.
Finishing the Procedure
The incisions made during the fat transfer may be left open or closed with sutures. It entirely depends on the area and the surgeon’s discretion. Your surgeon may also insert surgical drains to help prevent excess fluid build-up in the treatment area. Finally, we will place absorbent pads over the incisions to help protect the area post-op.
Post-Op
Most fat transfer procedures take place in our outpatient facility. You can return home the same day, usually within two to four hours after your procedure. We may provide you with a compression garment to wear during the recovery process to promote healing, provide support, minimize discomfort, and help your body adjust to the new contours that have been created.
Once you return home, you should allow yourself several days to recover after your procedure to promote healing. Your surgeon will provide you with instructions regarding sitting positions and temporary lifestyle adjustments. Any non-dissolvable sutures or bandages will be removed within one week of the procedure.
How Long Does a Butt Augmentation Take?
This procedure can last anywhere from one to four hours in total. The total procedure time all depends on how complex the procedure is and whether you are undergoing any additional procedure simultaneously.
When Will I Notice Results?
You will notice immediate results following the completion of your procedure, but your final results will be most apparent one year post-op. Fat transfers don’t prevent the growth of fat cells due to weight gain. Results are intended to be permanent, but you are responsible for maintaining your results with a healthy lifestyle. Weight gain can sabotage your results, so you must exercise consistently and eat healthily.
The Benefits of Butt Augmentation
Not only does this procedure help tighten and tone your stomach, but it augments your backside so that you can get that envy-worthy hourglass shape. Dr. Buckley has helped many patients achieve their goals through fat transfer. The combination of laser liposuction and fat injections into the buttocks re-contour your body into any more aesthetically pleasing shape.
You Won’t Need Implant Surgery
Until recently, an augmentation of the butt involved the insertion of an implant. This procedure provides an alternative to implant surgery so that you get the most natural-looking results. It uses your body fat to sculpt one area and build up and improve the appearance of another.
You Won’t Need To Go Under
Most fat transfers that involve augmenting the butt require local anesthesia, so not only will you be awake for the duration of the procedure, but you can watch your results appear during the process. Your treatment area will be completely numbed, and you will not experience any discomfort.
There Is Very Little Downtime
Unlike more in-depth implant surgeries, this procedure does not require a lengthy recovery period. You will be able to resume all of your normal activities within a few days of the procedure.
Your Results Will Look and Feel Natural
Since this procedure does not involve the insertion of an implant, once your results show up, they will look and feel completely natural. Your buttocks will have an increased size and a more proportional shape, but the fat in the area will be yours and yours alone.
It’s Precise
In recent years, different techniques and advancements have been made regarding this procedure. As a result, surgeons can inject fat in precise locations in the buttocks to create long-lasting results.
Where Else Can a Fat Transfer Be Performed?
The Face
We can perform fat transfers on the face to add volume to areas that have experienced hollowing due to the aging process. Fat transfers in the face are often performed during a facelift to rejuvenate the skin and improve the appearance of different areas of the face, including the:
- Cheeks
- Forehead
- Nose
- Under-eye area
- Jawline
- Temples
- Lips
- Chin
A fat transfer will take unwanted, stubborn fat from one area of your body, prepare it in injectable form, and then administer the injections to different areas of the face for an anti-aging effect. This process can reduce the appearance of frown lines, wrinkles, and facial depressions while revitalizing contours and facial features.
The Breasts
Women who aren’t satisfied with the appearance of their breasts or who have experienced changes due to pregnancy, nursing, and the aging process can undergo a fat transfer to achieve fuller, more aesthetic-looking breasts.
A fat transfer to the breasts is one way to augment the breasts without using an implant. Aside from the fact that this breast augmentation method increases the size and volume of the breasts, it is also beneficial because it delivers natural-looking results.
Who Is a Candidate?
The best candidates for this procedure want to increase the size of their buttocks, improve the shape, and adjust the overall appearance. Those who make ideal candidates do not wish to use an implant to get results but instead want to undergo a natural procedure. Some qualifiers make you a candidate, including:
- You don’t have any first-degree history of cancer in your family
- You are not considering but implants
- You have a good volume of unwanted fat that can act as the donor site
