SPECIAL SECTION DOCTOR PROFILES CONNECTIONS MAGAZINE AUGUST 2008
Dr. Richard E. Buckley, a Milford resident and the Medical Director of the Cosmetic Dermatology Skin and Laser Center, specializes in aesthetic cosmetic surgery, medical and surgical dermatology and has been treating patients at the center at Pocono Medical Care, Inc. for twenty-one years. Located at 303 W. Harford Street in Milford, the facility is known for its world class service in helping people feel and look their best. Dr. Buckley refers to his favorite quote by Mae West, “You’re never too old to become younger,” and says, “I appreciate helping people feel better about themselves. People express to me that the work I do has made a huge difference in their daily lives.”
Some of the procedures offered at the cosmetic facility include non-surgical brow lifts, minimal scar face lifts, chemical peels, fat transfers, Botox, fillers, lasers, micro-dermabrasion Parisian peels, scar revisions, and spider vein injections. In addition, Dr. Buckley helps improve rashes and performs skin cancer diagnoses and treatments. He said he treats up to 200 skin cancers a week and that the disease can be easily treated if people take their concerns to the doctor immediately.
Dr. Buckley performs both medical laser procedures and aesthetic laser procedures. The medical laser procedures work to correct conditions such as acne, Rosacea, vascular malformations, and hypertrophic scars, to name a few. The aesthetic laser procedures help with excess fat, acne scarring, cellulite, aging and sun-damaged skin, stretch marks, tattoos, wrinkles, and varicose veins. Dr. Buckley conducts enhancements through surgical and non-surgical methods including the use of lasers for liposculpting. Some new advancements have recently been made with liposuction through the use of very fine instruments rather than the large sucking tools that were used in the past and that now make the procedure very appealing. The finer instruments allow for a gentler, more refined procedure and improved sculpting, according to Dr. Buckley. In addition, he uses local anesthesia for all of the surgical procedures so they can be conducted right in his office procedure rooms with the patients awake throughout the process.
Dr. Buckley said he is excited with many advancements made in his field. One of the newer methods he is particularly impressed with and pioneering is the combined use of laser lipo and Carboxytherapy to treat cellulite. Carboxy is a technique, new in the U.S., that improves the appearance of cellulite by treating the unwanted fat cells that cause cellulite and improving local tissue metabolism and blood flow. Another newer treatment is that of transferring one’s own fat from an area where it is unwanted to another area in order to replace lost volume and obtain a fuller, more youthful appearance. Dr. Buckley can rebuild the face, including brow, cheeks, nose and chin, fingers and toes with fat from other areas of the body and can also fill in unwanted scars with living fat.
Dr. Buckley and his wife, Dr. Marina Buckley, also practice internal medicine at the facility on W. Harford Street. They moved to the area from Queens about twenty-one years ago and fell in love with the area right away. They both feel very lucky to be able to live and work in the Pike County community.
Dr. Buckley received his bachelor’s degree in Biology from the California State University in San Diego and obtained his medical degree from St. Georges University, which was followed by training at various institutions including Chief Resident responsibilities at Mt. Sinai, Elmhurst, New York’s second busiest hospital. Dr. Buckley belongs to the American Society for Laser Medicine and Surgery, the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgeons, Pennsylvania Medical Society, and American Medical Association. In addition, Dr. Buckley is President of the Wayne/Pike County Medical Society.
