“From what we’ve seen with CoolSculpting’s CoolMini neck contouring treatments is that most patients say goodbye to their double chins or wobbly necks in just one to two treatments,” says MilfordMD’s Medical Director and cosmetic surgeon Dr. Richard Buckley.

CoolSculpting technology, which is the number one noninvasive fat reduction treatment in the world, requires no needles, no surgery and results in little to no downtime. CoolSculpting’s recent addition, the CoolMini, addresses unwanted fat around the neck, leaving patients with a more contoured, youthful neckline, according to Dr. Buckley.
Double chins and fatty jowls are sore subjects for many. A 2014 American Society of Dermatology Surgery suggested 68 percent of adults are not satisfied with the looks of their necks, due to chin or neck fat.
“A double chin is something that even young people can have. It’s often genetic, and the fat around the neck does not usually respond to weight loss or exercise. Many try to cover it up with turtleneck shirts or scarves,” Dr. Buckley says. “That’s no longer necessary. CoolSculpting is an option for even young, busy professionals who don’t have time to recover from surgery. It’s a non-invasive procedure that can make a big impact on how young and vibrant a person looks.”
CoolSculpting’s fat freezing technology earned the FDA’s approval to treat extra fat around the neck in September 2015. Cosmetic surgeons have been using CoolSculpting as a noninvasive body sculpting option to sculpt the abdomen since 2010 and 2015 for the thighs. CoolSculpting’s approval for the neck was a game-changer because prior to that, people who wanted to rid their necks and jowls of fat had to resort to Kybella injections to dissolve neck fat, liposuction or invasive neck lift surgery.
CoolSculpting’s miniature CoolMini applicator clamps down on the unwanted neck fat, numbing the area and freezing the fat cells below the skin. Patients usually need one to two 60-minute in-office sessions with the CoolMini to achieve a 20 percent reduction in localized fat, according to the cosmetic surgeon.
“Patients generally experience little or no discomfort during the procedure and downtime tends to be minimal to none,” Dr. Buckley says. “It’s important for patients to understand that the results of CoolSculpting aren’t noticeable immediately. Rather it takes a few weeks—usually about three weeks—for the fat cells to die and for the body to naturally rid itself of those cells. Patients will continue to notice a slimming down of their necks until about three months.”
Fall and winter are the perfect times of the year to have CoolSculpting CoolMini neck contouring treatments because, by spring and summer, patients’ necks, chins and jowls should look more sculpted—well after turtleneck season and in time for the warmer months.
