How the MedLite® C6 Laser System Removes Hair More Effectively
The MedLite® laser was developed as the original Q-switched Nd:YAG technology in 1992 and has been extensively improved with each generation. The MedLite® IV was cleared for hair removal by the FDA when it launched in 1997. The MedLite® C6 (2002) pioneered a new generation of Q-switched technology. This advanced system uses an electro-optic (EO) Q-switch to produce high-speed pulse widths at peak energy, targeting the hair follicle with a PhotoAcoustic effect.
The MedLite® C series laser offers wavelength variations for a wide variety of procedures. The 1064 nm wavelength is ideal for laser hair removal, penetrating deeply enough to damage the hair bulb with very little risk of hyper- or hypo-pigmentation, or other side effects common with the use of other lasers on dark skin. The MedLite® laser has a significantly reduced risk of skin blisters or burns because the hair removal action is PhotoAcoustic rather than photothermal; peak energy is dispersed though the epidermis faster than the normal relaxation time of healthy tissue, and avoids transmitting heat to the skin’s surface. The energy is delivered so forcefully and evenly, it vibrates and shatters the hair shaft, with minimal discomfort to the patient. There is minimal heat delivered to the skin’s surface. The MedLite® C6 laser is particularly effective on dark vellus hair and paradoxical hypertrichosis.
