“Ozempic Face” is a term used to describe the common side effects of the type 2 diabetes medication Semaglutide, also known as Ozempic. By helping patients feel fuller for longer and delaying gastric emptying, patients consume less calories, resulting in weight loss. The weight loss associated with Ozempic often occurs rapidly, which can be particularly evident in the face.

Fat serves as an important component of facial aesthetics, providing volume and structure to the face. The fat pads of the face act as cushions to stretch and support the skin. Rapid reduction of this fat reduces the volume and fullness, and increase laxity of the skin, resulting in a more hollowed and sagging appearance. The skin may also have an increased presence of fine lines and wrinkles as it is no longer being supported. The skin loses its ability to contract as collagen and elastin decrease, which causes the skin to look increasingly aged.
