Milford, PA – July 22, 2019
Dr. Richard E. Buckley, Cosmetic Surgeon at MilfordMD Cosmetic Dermatology Surgery & Laser Center, uses a combination of energy-based devices to noninvasively tighten and lift aging facial skin. This is an option, he says, for people who don’t want or need a surgical facelift.
Surgical facelifts might be the gold standard for lifting facial skin and restoring a more youthful look to an aging face, but not everyone wants or needs surgery, according to cosmetic surgeon Dr. Richard E. Buckley, medical director of MilfordMD Cosmetic Dermatology Surgery & Laser Center, in Milford, Pa.

“For women and men who can’t tolerate the downtime associated with a surgical facelift, don’t want surgery or don’t yet need a facelift, there are lots of energy-based options that can noninvasively lift and help tighten facial skin,” says Dr. Buckley, who recently attended the 2019 Vegas Cosmetic Surgery and Aesthetic Dermatology conference, where experts talked about the possibilities with energy-based devices in cosmetic medicine. “Today’s lasers and light sources can rejuvenate faces, without patients having to take a day off of work for recovery.”
The energy-based facial rejuvenation combination treatment that Dr. Buckley often recommends to patients includes Ultherapy, an ultrasound-based device for skin lifting, and Thermage, a radiofrequency-based technology for skin tightening. He and his staff offer a menu of other procedures, including lasers, fillers and fat transfer for volumization and neuromodulator relaxers including Botox to relax wrinkles and lines; and medical facial peels to improve skin quality, texture and tone.
“This popular noninvasive facial rejuvenation combo addresses the common concerns of aging, looks natural and leaves patients more confident and feeling “like new”, he says. “In fact, combination nonsurgical approaches can address signs of aging that a facelift can’t.”
Thermage remains the gold-standard radiofrequency skin tightening device, according to Dr. Buckley. “Thermage treatments noninvasively tighten skin, help renew facial contours and build collagen,” he says. “And we can perform the treatment on all skin types, without having to worry about pigmentation problems or sun exposure.”
Thermage also is FDA cleared for noninvasive eyelid treatments, including the reduction of fine lines, wrinkles and eyelid skin crepiness.
“The surgical facelift procedure doesn’t rid patients of signs of aging around the eyes, such as crow’s feet, but Thermage does address eye rejuvenation, which is an extremely important area of the face for rejuvenation,” Dr. Buckley says.
Dr. Buckley often combines the skin tightening effect of Thermage with the skin lifting possible with Ultherapy. Ultherapy is the only device which is FDA cleared to make lifting claims for the eyebrow, face, neck and under the chin skin, and it can treat lines and wrinkles on the chest and neckline as well.
“Only one Ultherapy treatment is needed for facial rejuvenation,” Dr. Buckley says. “The noninvasive ultrasonic energy device safely and effectively helps to reduce the appearance of deep lines and wrinkles, as well as tightens loose skin. And patients notice that their results improve with time.”
While Thermage and Ultherapy have tightening and lifting impact on skin rejuvenation, Dr. Buckley says it’s often best to combine the energy-based therapy with a medical facial peel, such as HydraFacial MD that can help restore skin vibrance. “Aging skin loses some of its brightness and elasticity,” Dr. Buckley says. “Peels can help to restore that.”
Patients should maintain and promote further results by using a medical-grade daily skincare regimen at home, according to Dr. Buckley.
“There’s so much that we can do today to rejuvenate the face without downtime. And much of this can be done with very little time such as on one’s lunch hour in the comfort of our nationally accredited AAAHC cosmetic center,” he says.
