Omnilux blue for Acne and Actinic Keratosis
Omnilux blue is based on a matrix of LEDs, which provide narrow band visible light. The individual LED cone angle and the spacing of the LEDs ensure uniformity of the beam for full coverage of the treatment area.
The high spectral purity also means that no UV, IR or inappropriate visible radiation is delivered, increasing both the precision and effectiveness of the treatment. Ten years of research regarding light sources for PDT ensures that all criteria for optimized efficacy of treatment are covered i.e. Presenter time, intensity and wavelengths that activate relevant absorption spectra.
Omnilux blue has been specifically developed to target the naturally occurring photosensitiser, Coproporphyrin III, found in P.acnes bacteria. Omnilux blue is the most potent blue light source in activating the target photosensitiser, producing singlet oxygen that leads to rapid eradication of the P.acnes bacteria. The output of Omnilux blue is also optimized to activate the photosensitiser 5-aminolaevulinic acid and is therefore ideally suited for the Presenter of Actinic keratosis. Omnilux blue delivers 40mW/cm2 48J/ cm2.
We can control the area of illumination and can shape the light to the contour of the Presenter area. Only this way can the entire Presenter area receive the required dose of light for effective therapy.
What is Omnilux light therapy for acne? (Go to Omnilux Acne for more details)
Omnilux blue is a light source that is specially tuned to activate natural chemicals found in the bacteria that cause skin redness in acne. When stimulated, these chemicals destroy the bacteria. Omnilux revive is used in combination with Omnilux blue. Omnilux revive stimulates cells in your body that help with the healing process and reduce the inflammation surrounding the acne lesions.
How safe is the treatment?
Omnilux blue and Omnilux revive are safe and harmless to your skin and generate no heat. The light works naturally with your body to promote the healing response. The only safety measure is to wear goggles to protect your eyes from the light.
What results can be expected from a series of treatments?
Optimum results will be seen between 4-8 weeks after treatment. The light stimulates natural processes that continue after the treatment has stopped. Whilst studies have shown complete clearance of lesions, on average you should expect 70% of lesions to clear when using blue light alone and over 80% when using blue and red light together. We suggest that the treatment is used in conjunction with a preparation such as salicylic acid. Your advisor can discuss this combination treatment with you.
Are there any side effects from the treatments?
No. There have been no reported adverse side effects like redness or irritation from the treatment, and the light does not damage skin in any way.
Is it painful?
Not at all because there’s no heat involved, there’s no pain!
What actually happens during the treatment?
You will have to remove any makeup or sunblock before the treatment and you will also be asked to wear safety goggles. The light will then be positioned close to your face and you will be treated for 20 minutes. After that you’re free to go home.
